On Friday, August 22nd, our South LA studio came alive with the spirit of community as dedicated volunteers joined us to prepare mosaic materials for our ongoing free workshops. The energy was uplifting, and every contribution made a meaningful difference.
Volunteers engaged in a range of hands-on activities carefully cutting glass, refilling glue, folding cloths, and more. Each person chose a task that suited them, with guidance and encouragement from our supportive volunteer coordinator, Jay, ensuring every participant felt confident and welcome.
By day’s end, even those new to mosaic techniques were handling glass with skill, discovering how approachable and joyful the creative process could be. Side by side, we shared stories, laughter, and the excitement of imagining the unique artworks these colorful pieces would become.
The impact of our volunteers sustains our mission. Thanks to your generosity and commitment, Piece by Piece continues to offer free mosaic art workshops in South LA to individuals overcoming homelessness, economic insecurity, trauma, or loss—including veterans and neighbors seeking connection and growth. These sessions nurture creativity, healing, and skill-building in an inclusive environment.

Looking ahead, our next Volunteer Day is Saturday, September 13th! We invite you to join us as we assemble Art in a Box kits, which will be available for purchase on our website to help sustain Piece by Piece’s free mosaic workshops for under-resourced Angelenos. These approachable, beginner-friendly kits provide an inspiring introduction to mosaic art and make meaningful, creative gifts that support our mission.
No prior experience is necessary, our supportive team will guide you every step of the way. We invite individuals, families, and groups (ages 14+) to come together for a day of creativity, community, and positive change.
