Piece by Piece Launches Creative Forces Veteran Mosaic Classes at the Peer Center

Written by Piece by Piece Los Angeles | Aug 4, 2025 4:00:00 PM

Starting September 5th, Piece by Piece is proud to offer Creative Forces Mosaic Arts Classes at the Peer Center on the West LA VA campus. The Peer Center is a partnership that brings together the VA, LA County Department of Military & Veterans Affairs, Veteran Peer Access Network (VPAN), The Veterans Collective, Disabled American Veterans, Village for Vets, and many others. Together, this collaboration ensures that Veterans have access to meaningful opportunities for connection, healing, and creativity.

The Peer Center follows evidence-based peer support practices to build community and connect Veterans with vital resources and services. By introducing mosaic art into this welcoming environment, Piece by Piece and Village for Vets are helping create pathways for wellness that focus on connection and creativity.

With a curriculum designed by Piece by Piece Lead Instructor Dawn M. , and classes led by talented Piece by Piece instructors Wendy V. and Zara G., with special guest appearances from other Piece by Piece teaching artists, the classes will guide veterans, their families, and caregivers through the art of mosaics. Participants will have the chance to learn new skills, explore creative expression, and enjoy the camaraderie of working alongside others.

  • Open to: Veterans, their families, and caregivers

  • When: Weekly, beginning September 5th

  • Where: The Peer Center, West LA VA campus

  • Extras: Snacks provided at each class

Veterans are welcome to drop in anytime, but we encourage weekly attendance to experience the full benefits of arts and wellness. To help us prepare, we also recommend completing the class interest form for a brief orientation before joining.

At the conclusion of the sessions, the artwork created by veterans, their families, and caregivers will be featured in a special exhibition. This showcase will highlight the creativity, resilience, and sense of community fostered through the classes—offering participants an opportunity to share their stories and accomplishments with the broader community.

Piece by Piece has seen firsthand how mosaic art can create community, spark joy, and support mental wellness. One Veteran shared that the workshops helped them “learn essential life skills like breathing, taking my time, and recognizing my self-worth”. Another participant’s family noted that attending class became the highlight of his week, even as he navigated a serious illness.

With our dedicated instructors, a strong One Team partnership, the ongoing support of Village for Vets, and the safe, welcoming environment of the Peer Center, we look forward to fostering a vibrant Veteran arts community, both on the West LA VA campus and beyond.
